The Colonnades Apartments in Midtown KC!

This is one of Kansas City’s coveted historic buildings built in 1902-1903 that were restored in 2017. The Colonnades consists of four self-sufficient buildings and 34 apartments in total overlooking Armour Blvd. Walking up to The Colonnades, you will see mature trees lining the street. This provides a shaded grass area leading up to the front porches supported by beautiful white columns of each building. As you approach, you will notice the historic detail preserved, but entering each apartment will give you a sense of modern living. The kitchens feature large marble-like quartz eating bars, pendant lighting, stainless appliances. The wood floors(basement units have matching plank flooring) were restored and the historic windows remain intact, providing a ton of natural light in each unit. These homes are pet friendly, Google Fiber ready, and have washer and dryer in-unit. Paradise Flats is a playful combination of Classic Revival historicism and contemporary finishes. Original Neoclassical details, as well as some charismatic interior elements have been preserved and restored, while new high-end finishes such as maple cabinetry, quartz counter tops and stainless steel appliances and dining room chandeliers have been added. Massive ionic columns frame comfortable front porches that overlook the park and the surrounding historic buildings.

Renovated in 2014, the original details of the historic 1922 façade were restored, the residences were completely updated, and modern elements of design were integrated into exterior and interior alike.

Arc on Armour is an apartment residence located on Armour Boulevard in Kansas City. This conversion of a classic Mid-Century office building to rental homes started in July of 2019 finished in the fall of 2020. The distinct, modern units retain some unique characteristics of the original architecture. In Arc on Armour’s case, the distinguishing arches in the front were largely infilled with brick but now consist of reflective glass, giving each home full-height and full-width windows. Other original elements like the lobby’s terrazzo, the exposed concrete ceilings, and the masonry planters flanking the entrance, were retained and restored to further convey the character of the original architecture. With only 62 apartments, residents enjoy the amenities of a huge apartment development with a small community feel. The natural-toned light wood cabinets, open shelving, black marbleized quartz, and black accents paired with light laminate wood flooring and high exposed concrete ceilings all give a sense of openness with a side of stylish, modern vibes. Ambassador, located at Broadway and Knickerbocker Street, was constructed in 1925 to be the largest apartment hotel in Kansas City. Like the architecture of Country Club Plaza, Ambassador was designed in the Spanish Revival Style, as seen in its painted stucco, decorative tiles, terra cotta, tile roofs, and ornamental ironwork. The rooftop garden overlooking the city was often a common hangout for starlets such as Kim Novak. The newly restored apartment features 112 studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom units with a clean, contemporary, and efficient design. Centrally located on one of the most prominent streets in Kansas City that connects the Plaza, Westport, and Downtown, the Ambassador on Broadway Street offers convenience and accessibility. Alexander and its twin neighbor Cleopatra are Prairie Style residences built in the 1920’s. Their distinctive facades contain sweeping horizontal bands of stucco and masonry capped by expansive clay tile roofs, which extend to offer shade to the broad 2-story porches overlooking the quiet, tree-lined sidewalks of Locust Street. Alexander and Cleopatra were renovated in 2013 with a modern aesthetic that includes stainless steel appliances and maple cabinetry complemented by color-coordinating accent tile.
