Questions to Ask When Renting an Apartment in Kansas City

Apartment hunting isn’t an easy task. You want the best place with the nicest amenities. Many potential apartment residents forget to thoroughly read and understand their lease contracts.

To avoid any misunderstandings with your landlord or neighbors, here are some questions you should ask when looking for apartments in Kansas City

Painting Options

Some renters enjoy playing with colors in their apartments to help show off their personality and make their spaces feel more like a home. It is dependent on the property whether or not you’re able to do things like change the paint color. Some will allow you to do so as long as you agree to restore the color back to its original state by the time you leave. If you think you might like to change your paint color, be sure that you check with the leasing agent at the time of your showing to make sure this is allowed at your desired property.

Pets

Even if you don’t have a pet right now, if you love animals and possibly want one in the future, you should definitely ask about the pet policies at the apartments you’re considering. Keep in mind that a number of apartment owners refuse to allow pets in their units as your furry pal can damage flooring, scratch walls and doors, and disturb other tenants. If you do find a pet-friendly place, expect to pay an extra pet security deposit and pet rent.

A year can fly by, but it can also drag if you’re stuck in a place you didn’t fully vet before leasing. Don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as necessary to make you feel comfortable before signing your lease.
